SATURDAY NIGHT: mailbot @ The Cocaine/Live Jazz! ALL AGES [Oct. 14th, 2005|11:14 pm]

Hey,

After thinking about it, we realized that booking shows where we want people to come for our safety was a stupid idea. So, we're playing at one of our favorite places to play in LA, The Cocaine @ Live Jazz in Little Tokyo (366 E. 2nd St., LA, CA, 90012).

If you like a driving rhythm section and dissonant guitars (that build off each other) with melodic vocals over top (and a lead singer with a bum ankle), then come on down and check it out. here's the info and thanks for your time:

Saturday, October 15th
11:30pm

w/ Tobias, The Hairbrain Scheme, The Press Fire, Faulter, Down On Be

[music |Here Today Gone Tomorrow & Something To Believe In ~ Ramones]

...It was one week ago today at 3:03 PM in Los Angeles, California. Johnny Ramone passed away, due to complications with new, experimental therapy & medications for the prostate cancer which he had been battling for the past few years. He was only 55 years old. The irony of this all was that not even a week earlier, his doctor was quoted as to saying, "Johnny Ramone is not dying. He is very much alive."

The Ramones formed in New York in 1974. The original lineup consisted of Joey on vocals, DeeDee on bass, Tommy on percussion, and Johnny on lead guitar and backing vocals. Joey died in 2001 after batttling Lymphoma (a cancer of the lymph nodes) for nearly ten years at the age of 49. DeeDee died in 2002, the result of a heroin overdose at 51. Tommy is the only Ramone from the original lineup that is still alive.

The Ramones are an essential piece of rock history; if it weren't for them, The New York Dolls, and a few others, punk music, and eventually its offspring (grunge, thrash, and even emo and pop-punk), would not even exist. The Ramones are often seen and referred to as the Fathers of Punk... even though they never had a #1 single or album in the US or elsewhere.

A tribute concert was held at the Hollywood Bowl on September 13th, whose proceeds would go to benefit Lymphoma and Prostate Cancer Research Centers across the US. Rob Zombie, who, along with members Johnny, Tommy, (touring) Marky, C.J, and Ritchie, founded the concert, and selected bands to perform. Unfortunately, Johnny, who was at the hospital receiving the first of the experimental treatments, did not attend the concert.

We'll miss you, Johnny. It was your energy which brought the Ramones together. Your energy which inspired songs such as 'Blitzkrieg Bop', 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker' and 'I Wanna Be Sedated'. Not many people could have taken only three chords so far.

Hey. I just joined this today, obviously....

My favourite dead musicians are: Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morisson, Joey & DeeDee Ramone, Kurt Cobain, Lane Staley, Bon Scott, Cliff Burton, John Bonham, Bill Ward....

The list goes on. Trust me.

Oh. Funny story about Cliff Burton. There was a guy at my secondary school who looked JUST like him back in 1983 (how Burton looked in '83, that is). I would call him the GCB (Ghost of Cliff Burton) behind his back... he was so hot....

..I have a fascination with dead musicians. My boyfriend says it's unhealthy.. he just doesn't understand, though.

[music |okay lets see if I got it right. Brain Damage-Pink Floyd]

Okay so my boyfriend seems to think I shouldn't be so retarded when it comes to knowing bands and stuff. So okay I messed up the other day and I got Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd mixed up. And yes I know HOW?!?!?!?!?! can you confuse them right? I had a moment I'm sorry. So then Me and Jeeves decided to go and take a visit the band of Pink Floyd but I only got a chance to talk to Roger Walters and we talked for hmmmm I would say a good 900 hours, he is actually a very nice guy once you get to know him. He leans a bit to the odd side but thats always fun. But we talked about the time he got mad at himself for spitting on one of his fans... sounded like a depression story.... kinda... I hate getting spit on... *Darn munchkins keep spewing on me* anyways from talking to Roger I found out more about the band and it was fun. And I will (Hopefully) never confuse the bands again. Well that was mine and Jeeves big adventure for today.
